Bite This Town…………

It’s about that time for another round of delicious food! A local joint that has been in the area since 1980. Inspired from Vienna, Austria. A young couple decided to take some of their traditional family roots and lay them out here in our little awesome town, how lucky are we! Those roots included some of the best European style baked goods in this area.

Josef’s Vienna Bakery was started by Josef & Sonja Pasa. Growing up in Vienna, Josef came up with their menu ideas and passed them along to the very same bakers that are still creating some decadent pastries that Josef’s offers. Sadly, Josef past away back in 2000 and his wonderful wife still carries on the legacy he created. Imported ingredients from Austria give them the special edge that’s needed to take them over the top. Fresh, sweet, creamy and oh so dreamy are just some of the words used to describe Josef’s wonderful assortment of baked goods, breakfast and lunch items.  Our Friday Breakfast was one that we all were really looking forward to. Not only is their pastry menu filled with mouthwatering sweet treats, but their menu is so loaded with goods that its too hard to choose. Their menu consists of all kinds of sweet and savory French crepes, waffles and French toast, decadent baked egg dishes, scrambles and omelets, breakfast sammies,  a variety of eggs Benedict, oat meals & hot cereals. They offer so many choices when it comes to meats, cheeses and veg. Your breakfast will just never be the same. It’s delicious filling food that is not heavy, fattening foods. Their portion sizes are real and made to eat all of it at one sitting, not overloading the plate with too much butters or fats. Fresh real ingredients that will make you wanting more. I decided to go with the open faced breakfast sammy, this bad boy is constructed of two nice size pieces of grilled garlic bread, topped with roasted tomatoes, poached eggs, shaved parmesan and a light drizzle of hollandaise. Side of fresh fruit such as blueberries, grapes, kiwis, strawberries, melons, pineapples and bananas. Not just your average side of fruit, all of that accompanied by a mini cream Danish. As if I couldn’t ask for anything more, I ordered a side treat of one of their in house made, sticky buns. See below to drool, I am again 🙂

I don’t think those pictures do any justice for the amount of wonderful goodness that I felt at each bite. The sticky bun was crazy good, slightly too many nuts for me, so I just wiped some off. The dough was sticky & sweet, hence the name. It did not fall short of meeting my sweet tooth expectations. For just being a re-constructed eggs bene, I will be dreaming of this breakfast for awhile, till something else just as wonderful takes it’s place. Some of the top ordered items were different varieties of scrambles and omelets, all which I was told were some of the best in town. I think the combo of ingredients being fresh and just awesome selections of combined ingredients, make them just so dam good. A nice change from the norm. I know I am not typically the breakfast eater but something about this day screamed breakfast to me! I did have a chance to browse the lunch & deli menus and they also looked just as tantalizing. Healthy salads, soups & chili.  Cold, hot & pressed sammies galore, which are like the scrambles, so many combinations to choose from. Bratwurst, chicken schnitzel, pot pies, more French crepes, and their famous Goulash! Josef’s also offers a quick grab deli option that offers pre-made sammies, soups, quiches and home made salads by the pound. Salad options like tuna almond, macaroni, potato apple, red cabbage, curry chicken and lots of other yummy choices!

As for their pastries and baked goods, we will need a whole other post just for those alone! Fine pastries and mini cakes, morning buns and pastries, cookies and small bites, breads, home made pies and these little awesome beauties called petit fours. They are little bites of moist almond cake with a thin layer of marzipan and raspberry preserve, then covered in fondant icing or chocolate ganache icing. They are beautifully hand decorated and look so cute, you’ll have a hard time eating them. They also offer hand decorated cookie assortments for any occasion. If your in need of a birthday cake or just because cake, this is the place to come. They have all your typical flavors and then some. It’s like getting a home made cake without the home made look. Very clean, elegant and made with good ole’ fashion L.O.V.E.  Josef’s is located at 933 West Moana in the little shopping center where the Red Hut is and lots of other cool shops. One of those shops being my boss’s tattoo parlor, Marked Studios 🙂 They are opened Monday to Friday from 8 to 3. Check out their website:        They offer an online store and gift cards for your shopping pleasure. You will not be disappointed! You might leave slightly larger than when you first walked in, but all in moderation and they don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon, so future visits are acceptable.

Until the next go ’round of food, I hope you enjoyed salivating over the wonderful food brought to us by another fabulous cafe here in Reno. St. Patty’s Day is tomorrow and I hope the luck of the Irish completes your day. Enjoy dining and drooling all while being green in Nevada!
